The population of HANOU-KOPE is confronted with a crucial water problem, particularly in the dry season. In HANOU-KOPE, there is no drinking water supply installation. Runoff water is collected during the rainy season. This unsanitary water causes illnesses and remains the major cause of death among children. Faced with this situation, women, daily load multiple tasks in the home, and young girls who should devote their energy and time to education, travel for kilometers in search of clean water in ravines or in neighboring villages. Men spend their small income on medicines for children who frequently fall ill from drinking unhealthy water. The project foresees to built a water well (up to 40 m deep) with an electric pump which is run by solar energy and a tank to store the water for distribution.
