In Bolivia, thousands of children and young people grow up in extremely vulnerable conditions—exposed to street life, abandonment, child labour, and trafficking. For over 35 years, Fundación Alalay has been working to change this reality by supporting those most at risk and helping them build a safer, more independent future.
BASAID is proud to support Alalay as a new partner organisation that meets all our due diligence standards and brings extensive local expertise. Together, we aim to create lasting opportunities for young people in Mecapaca.
Currently, the local bakery and textile workshops—once key spaces for training and income generation—are no longer operational due to damaged infrastructure and lack of equipment and training. This project will bring them back to life.
Through the rehabilitation of facilities and the provision of technical and entrepreneurial training, 40 adolescents and young adults will gain practical skills and real prospects for employment or self-employment.
Why this project matters:
- It provides vulnerable youth with tangible pathways to independence
- It promotes dignity through skills, work, and entrepreneurship
- It strengthens local partnerships and sustainable community development
Expected impact:
- Fully operational bakery and textile workshops
- Youth-led micro-enterprises generating income
- Improved employability and long-term autonomy for participants
