Digambarpur Angikar runs a micro-bakery in a shelter home in Sundarban, West Bengal, India which was established in 2024 with funds by BASAID. It is run by young trafficked adolescent girls and young women providing them with apprenticeship and livelihood opportunities. While the bakery produces bread, cakes, and biscuits, it faces significant challenges in lack of transportation for marketing in bigger markets. This limits its reach and potential for sustainable income and livelihoods.
The project aims to increase production output of the micro-bakery by adding a deep freezer and storage racks as well as addressing the transportation challenges. Specifically, it proposes to acquire one battery-operated tricycle van (Mahindra Treo Plus Electric Auto) to facilitate the transport of supplies to the bakery and distribution of baked goods to larger markets.
The acquisition of the battery-operated tricycle van will enable the bakery unit to:
- Access and increase its marketing reach
- Ensure cost-effective transportation of bakery supplies and ingredients and on-time supply of finished products to markets
- Support the overall goal of creating employment opportunities and sustainable livelihoods for deprived young women
The project is run by Digambarpur Angikar, a government-registered welfare society with funds of 5’000 CH.
