BOREHOLE RENOVATION FOR AGBELOUVE COLLEGE, Acteurs Reunis

The Agbelouvé-Gamé College, created by a coalition of villages after repeated government requests failed, serves over 1,500 students annually from more than twenty surrounding villages. With no state support, the community funds volunteer teachers and maintains basic infrastructure, including classrooms and benches. However, they face a pressing need to renovate the college’s existing borehole to improve access to clean water. The proposed solution is to replace the manual pump with an autonomous electric system and install a 3,000-liter elevated water tank. This will provide safe, reliable drinking water for students and the wider community, improving hygiene, reducing waterborne diseases, and helping to combat school dropout—especially among girls, who often miss school to fetch water. The project will also support the school’s sustainability by enabling water sales to generate income. The parents’ committee and local community are fully committed, contributing materials, labor, and 705,000 CFA francs toward the renovation. This project is key to improving health, education, and gender equality in the region
