For more than 30 years, the Deutsch-Madagassicher Verein Esslingen e.V. (DMVE) has worked on a purely private basis, doing purely voluntary work to ensure that Madagascar’s poorest young people have access to a good life through qualified vocational training by financing around 230 young people to learn their profession in five different practical areas and in school lessons. This qualified education at SOLTEC is recognized by the state and ensures an independent future for these young people. In response to the drought in southern Madagascar, SOLTEC opened a new branch of education in Mahitsy (30 km away) where young people from the south are trained for agriculture in arid areas. There is only a very small building on site with one room for training, learning, eating and partially sleeping and only one toilet and shower. The goal of the project is to enable young people to get education in agriculture by providing a new building with classrooms for teaching, homework and self study and meetings and additional sanitization rooms.
