From Nursery to Agroforestry, Nepal

In the Sindhupalchok region of Nepal, low farming income has led to land abandonment and farmer migration. To address this, Ashabhumi Nepal plans a two-year agroforestry project in Aarukharka, Melamchi-11, and Kalikot. The project will grow 12.000 trees, which will provide fruit and vegetable saplings for 500 families. . Activities include constructing greenhouses, growing plants, and providing organic farming training. With a total budget of 19,839 CHF, (of which 11,682 CHF in year 1 respectively) the project aims to convert 23% of barren land into farms, introduce 20 farmers to organic farming, and increase household incomes by 25%. It also seeks to reduce youth migration, lessen the burden on women and elderly farmers, and improve soil quality.
