Finishing Dome Clinic, Ghana

Ashanti Development is building a clinic at the village of Dome. The building work is far advanced, and much of the equipment needed has been bought.  The main outstanding item is for accommodation for a medical doctor and a midwife.  If we do not provide this accommodation, or if this accommodation is of poor quality, it is unlikely that any doctor or midwife will agree to be posted in this remote area. Once the medical accommodation is complete and the medical equipment is bought, the clinic and associated buildings will be given to the local authority, where they will be included in Ghana’s national health provision.  From that moment, the state will provide all staff, salaries and supplies and Ashanti Development will cease to have any formal relationship with the clinic other than the right to enter and inspect, which they normally insist on. This is identical to the arrangements they have made with the local authority for all six clinics we have built so far.
