Bio garden in a hostel for children with cancer, Peru

, , , ,

In Peru, around 1,800 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and approximately 350 (18.4%) abandon treatment due to lack of financial resources. Inspira, our local partner, is an organisation that provides accommodation, food, and health services, and accompanies sick children and their mothers during treatment in Lima free of charge.

The project provides organic vegetables and supports the children’s recovery through therapeutic activities. As they cannot attend school, the bio garden makes a significant contribution to their well-being, as the children and their mothers participate together in therapeutic activities. The bio garden will be established and maintained by Inspira staff, who will also offer healthy cooking workshops using products from the garden. Once parents and children return to their communities, they will be encouraged to apply what they have learned, start bio gardens at home, and cook healthy meals.
