This socio-economic development project in Andhra Pradesh, India, aims to empower 25 young widows from scheduled caste communities through a buffalo rearing and dairy program. These women, often marginalized and deprived of education, will receive 25 milking she-buffaloes, insured by United India Insurance Company Limited. They will build cattle sheds using local materials and undergo a three-day training on modern rearing methods. The project includes medical care for the cattle and support from a local veterinary medical officer. The beneficiaries will sell the extracted milk in local markets, using the grant as a revolving fund. This initiative, led by the Rev. Fr. L. Arogyaraj of St. Mother Teresa Church, aims to improve the financial position of these women, protect them from exploitation, and promote sustainable development. The project, with a budget of 4,000 CHF, ensures equal treatment between men and women and involves the participants in decision-making, ultimately making them self-supportive.
