This project aims at building resilience and the creation of sustainable livelihood for families, of the Battambang Province in Northwest Cambodia. BASAID partner Cambodian Children’s Trust (CCT) is working to provide vulnerable people with the skills and assets required to improve the quality of their lives and the welfare of their children.
Most families are living in poverty and the socio-economic impact of COVID19 exacerbated the existing challenges that these families face. Poor families are falling further into indebtedness. Mounting debt and the lack of secure income is contributing to increased stress within households, which in turn creates child protection issues such as domestic violence and alcohol abuse becoming more prevalent.
Within this project, families are empowered through different activities including referral of families by social workers, support in self assessment of basic needs, by connecting them with public services & providing financial support. The social workers conduct a financial assessment and set a financial goal with the family. Families are coached on how to avoid debt, prioritize expenses, make cost-effective purchases, budget and manage household finances. In addition social workers support the family to create a business plan to meet their financial goals and evaluate the progress of their business. Capital will be provided to families for income generating activities based on their business plan. Once the family brings in enough income to meet their basic needs, their social worker will help them establish a savings plan.
The project is planned to reach 50 vulnerable families with 340 household members.
