Novartis helps earthquake victims in Haiti – your donation counts double!
Dear Associates
It is with great dismay that we learned in the last few days about the earthquake in Haiti that
has brought unimaginable suffering to thousands of people. While the picture in Port-au-
Prince remains as unclear as ever, it is feared that tens of thousands have died in the
devastating earthquake.
Many associates here in Switzerland have contacted us in the last few days to express their
shock. They wanted to know how the people affected by the earthquake can best be helped.
As you can see in the letter from our Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Daniel
Vasella, Novartis is donating emergency medicines to various aid organizations.
Numerous queries in this regard are currently being considered. In addition, the various country
organizations of Novartis are carrying out their own collections for the earthquake victims in
Haiti. To this end, an account for the earthquake victims in Haiti has been opened in
Switzerland with BASAID (www.basaid.ch) – the relief aid organization of Novartis associates.
Your donation is thus worth twice the money you pay in! Novartis will double all
donations which its associates pay into the BASAID post-office account for earthquake
victims in Haiti by February 28, 2010.
Associates who want to contribute to aid for the earthquake victims in Haiti can do this by
paying their donation into the following post-office account by bank transfer or using a paying-
in slip:

All your donated money will be used for reconstruction projects in Haiti. A committee made up
of representatives from Novartis, BASAID and the Novartis Foundation for Sustainable
Development will consider various reconstruction projects in Haiti and then decide on how the
resources are to be used. In this way, we can make sure that our aid for the people affected
will also have a long-term and sustainable impact beyond that of the immediate relief
operations.
We shall keep you informed about the deployment and use of the donations through the
internal Novartis information channels and via the BASAID website.

Weihnachtsbazar 2009, Rückblick.
Den mehreren –zig Helfern ist es zu verdanken, dass wir dieses Jahr wieder 75 Neumitglieder gewinnen konnten.
Sie haben damit Ihr aktives Mitgefühl zum Ausdruck gebracht denen zu helfen, die auf der Schattenseite des Lebens zur Verbesserung ihrer normalerweise unverschuldeten miesen Lage sind.
Auch gleichzeitig erhaltene Spenden in Höhe von SFr. 345.-, das uns die Novartis großzügigerweise verdoppelt, wirkt in die gleiche Richtung, die es uns erlaubt, wieder neue Hilfsprojekte zu realisieren.
Produkte, die innerhalb unserer unterstützten Projekte hergestellt wurden, haben wir im Wert von ca. SFr. 12’ooo.- umgesetzt. Dafür sind die unterstützten Menschen dankbar, denn damit betreiben wir im doppelten Sinn Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe. Ihr Dank geht indirekt an uns Käufer.
Ihnen allen dafür unseren herzlichen Dank aussprechend wünscht Ihnen die BASAID.
PS. Beim Wettbewerb über die Anzahl Reiskörner im BASAID-Logo (1'800 Stück ) hat Herr Roland Hagedorn die Zahl am nächsten getroffen und somit die handgeschnitzte Statue ( aus Ebenholz ) aus Togo gewonnen. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!

NACHRUF ZUM HINSCHIED VON MICHAEL L. WILKINSON
Der Hinschied von Michael hat uns alle die ihn gekannt haben sehr betroffen gemacht. Er verstarb am 22. September in seinem 75. Lebensjahr. Der Vorstand der heutigen BASAID möchte seiner Familie sein tiefes Beileid ausdrücken. Wir, die ihn während vieler Jahre gekannt haben und mit ihm zusammengearbeitet haben, werden ihn stets in bester Erinnerung behalten.
Michael gehörte zu den ersten Mitgliedern des Vereins Basaid (dazumal Basaid-Sandoz) nach dessen Gründung im Jahre 1979. Er war der erste Präsident und behielt dieses Mandat während vieler Jahre. Er war immer mit Leib und Seele dabei, sein humanitäres Gedankengut in die benachteiligten Länder der Dritten Welt zu tragen und auch umzusetzen. Er pflegte sehr gute Kontakte zu anderen Hilfsorganisationen in aller Welt, bereiste immer wieder Länder in denen Basaid Projekte betreute und kannte unter anderem Mutter Theresa in Calcutta persönlich. Nicht zuletzt möchten wir erwähnen, dass es ihm stets ein grosses Anliegen war, gute Kontakte zur Direktion der Sandoz AG zu pflegen mit dem Ziel, das Management auf die Anliegen von Basaid zu sensibilisieren, was ihm zweifelsohne auch gelungen ist.

Novartis live, Edition 6-7/2009 has a contribution on BASAID. Our philosophy, the criteria to select projects and an example for the continuing adaptation of our work to the local needs have been resumed. We are looking for small projects that can be followed during the realisation and then checked for their sustainability. We welcome this contribution in Novartis Live and hope to get more members out of the community of Novartis and its correlated companies. Nach der erfolgreichen GV im Missionshaus hat der Vorstand beschlossen, auch die GV 2010 im Missionshaus zu plannen. Datum: Mittwoch, 14. April 2010, 1700-Uhr. Wir hoffen, dass die frühzeitige Bekanntgabe und das angenehmere Rahmen zu einer grösseren Teilnahme führt. Wir werden im Bulletin 1/2010 über den Rahmenvortrag und die Möglichkeit informieren, nach der GV auch ein gemeinsames Nachtessen einzunehmen, |
