Goal:                              Manufacture of dried fruits. Mostly bananas but also ananas and mangos are collected from the regional peasants. This in a ring of approx. 40-60 km. The approx. 50 peasants are in a cooperative "La Ruche". Approx. 20 women ( with large families ) and 4 men work in the facility during 10 month and can collect a regular salary. Only ripe fruits are collected from BIO-production and are manufactured without addition of sugar or conservants. The quality is controlled regularly. We sell on our yearly X-mas market these products and can check reguarly their quality.

Projektstatus:         Start of production with 2 ovens in 1998 ( The ovens were paid by the villageof Zumikon(ZH). Now there are 4 ovens.

Contributions from BASAID:

• Loan of CHF 18'750 to 15 peasants ( Cooperative "La Ruche")
• Purchase every year of a larger amount of dried fruits.

• SETRAPAL, now active as a company

Duration:     started in 1998: Now SETRAPAL evaluates the possibility to collect, sterilize and sell locally the juce of ananas produced during the manufacture.
