Project leader of BASAID:  Erich Schnurrenberger

Description:
The project started in 2007. The jobless were vaccinated against hepatitis, tetanus, tbc, typhoid fever and were equipped with protective garments. They received the appropriate tools and 4-weeled carts. They collected a fee from every household that signed a contract for the service and everyone had a monthly income of approx. 8000 fCFA ( ca. 20.- sFr ). The collection starts between 3-4 AM and ends approx 3 PM. They walk up to 20 km daily for their duty and are engaged 4 days every week even if the wheater is not so good. They make actually (2009) between 12'000 and 15'000 fCFM every month.

Clients:
The initiative started with 800 households; now there are 1300!
The fee for regular disposal of the household garbage depends from the size of the household ( between 500 anf 1000 fCFA  = 1.25 - 2.50 sFr ).
This is fixed in a written contract. In the case that the fee is not paid regularly, the garbage ist left in front of the house and everyone can see who does not fulfill.
